Kenneth Lewis Roethler was born on February 25, 1938 in Watertown, South Dakota to Leo J. and Mary V. (Kidwell) Roethler. Ken grew up in Watertown where he attended Immaculate Conception grade school and then graduated from Watertown High School.

On November 14, 1959 Ken and Carol J. Jutting were united in marriage at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Watertown.

Ken's career began at Timmerman Woodworking as a cabinet maker. After 16 years, he decided to go on the road as a union carpenter. He worked on several large projects including the Big Stone Power Plant and the Watertown Mall. When the mall was finished, he decided to stay around home and work for local contractors including Moehring Construction. In 1996, Ken started Roethler Construction, Inc. with his son Michael. He worked until dementia forced him to retire. He spent his final years at home with the help of his family, Dr. Josephine Garcia, and the many home health aids and nurses who cared for him.

Ken enjoyed a lifetime of hunting and fishing with family and friends. He loved his grandchildren and great grandchildren, and always enjoyed spending time with them all.

Ken is survived by his wife, Carol of Watertown; their four children, Michael Roethler of Watertown, Douglas (Valerie) Roethler of Aberdeen, Mary (Steven) Schilder of Faulkton and Kathy Roethler of Watertown; his brother, Richard Roethler of Bismarck, ND; five grandchildren, Erica (John) Maher of Timber Lake, Taylor (Alex) Schilder of Faulkton, Derrick (Keeley Herman) Schilder of Faulkton, Rhiannon (Stephen) Marlow of Doland and Tanner (Kennedi Sparling) Roethler of Aberdeen; eight great-grandchildren, Mason Marlow, Carson and Harleigh Roethler, Rose, Elsie and Tate Maher, Lydia Schilder and Locklin Schilder; and two step great-grandsons, Steven and Jayden Marlow.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, James; his sister-in-law, Joann; and his niece, Nancy Roether.
