Larry J. Buck, age 82, of Vienna, SD, passed away on Monday, January 9, 2023 at Avantara Care Center in Lake Norden.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m., Friday, January 13, 2023 at the Wight & Comes Funeral Chapel in Watertown.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 14, 2023 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Vienna with Pastor Colin Beveridge officiating.
Burial will be at the Dixon Cemetery, Vienna, SD.
Pallbearers will be Riley, Brady, Cody, Wade and Bret Buck, and Scott Marquardt.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Larry's grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Memorials may be designated to Prairie Lakes Hospice in Watertown and South Dakota Parkinson Foundation.
Larry John Buck, son of S.E. "Finnie" and Sadie (Schamens) Buck was born on March 17, 1940 at home near Bryant SD. He grew up in the Vienna area and attended Vienna School all 12 years, graduating in 1958. On December 26, 1958 he married Rozann Rae Froke in Bryant, SD. The couple was blessed with three children, Wade, Bret and Amber. Larry and Rozann lived in Hamlin County all their life except for the four years they lived in Rapid City, SD. Larry was a carpenter and window plant manager in Rapid City from 1958-1962. Larry started farming in 1962 and farmed for 50 years. He also sold seed for 30 years and retired in 2012.
Larry served on the Dixon School Board, Township Board, Farmers Union Co-op Oil and Hamlin County FSA Board. He also served on the Bethlehem Church Council as President, Trustee, and on the Cemetery Board.
Throughout his youth and well into middle age, Larry played basketball and was a fast pitch softball pitcher.
Later in his life he enjoyed playing poker regularly.
Grateful for having shared in his life are his wife, Rozann Buck of Vienna; his children, Wade (Nikki) Buck of Carthage, SD, Bret (MarJoan) Buck of Bryant, SD, and Amber (Scott) Marquardt of Montevideo, MN; 7 grandchildren and 1 step grandchild, Cassi (Dustin) Paulson, Tehya (Brent) Griffith, Riley (Ali) Buck, Brady (Ellie) Buck, Cody Buck, Abby Marquardt, Annie Marquardt and Maddie Richards; 6 great grandchildren, Claire and Kate Paulson, Edyn and Talan Griffith, Brigham and Evelynn Buck; one brother, Jerry (Renee) Buck of Bryant, SD; his sister, Sandy (Bill) Gregg of Sioux Falls, SD; brother-in-law, Rick (Denise) Froke of Watertown; and sister-in-law, Jackie Froke of Watertown.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter in infancy, one brother Donald (Jean) Buck, and three sisters, Charlotte (Earl) Kays, Doris (Gene) Knadle, and Fern (James) Johnson.
