Leola entered this world on April 12, 1926, to Albert and Anna (Schlosser) Cizadlo. She followed three older brothers; John, Albert and Woodrow, and was raised on farms in the Goodwin area where the family grew seed potatoes and Angus cattle. She attended primary school in Kranzburg and Goodwin and graduated from Goodwin High School. She then attended SDSC in Brookings.

Leola married Thomas Spartz on April 27, 1949, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Kranzburg and their son Robert arrived on June 20, 1950. The couple owned a café in Goodwin and a bar in Kranzburg for several years before moving to the farm north of Goodwin. Thomas preceded her in death on 30 October 1998.

Leola was an accomplished seamstress; sewing her family’s clothing and many articles in her home. She also made many decorated wedding cakes for relatives and birthday cakes for her grandchildren. She raised a garden, canned her produce, and helped with the farming. She was a perfectionist and her finished articles were always beautiful. She loved her family and was especially proud of her grandchildren who she taught to play Rummy and sew. She hosted many family events including the annual 4th of July cookout.

She loved to bowl and later in life she took up golfing and excelled at both sports. She was an active member of the Holy Rosary Altar Society and the Goodwin VFW. She suffered from macular degeneration and hated that she could no longer sew but maintained her home till this summer when she became a resident of Good Samaritan Center in Clear Lake where she passed away.

Leola is loved and remembered by her son Robert and daughter-in-law Mary, grandchildren Jason (Lisa) Spartz of Marshall, MN and their children Riley, Chase, London and Faith. Jack (Trish) Spartz of Goodwin, SD and their children Noah, Karlee and Owen; Jed (Christina) Spartz of LaBolt, SD and their children Tosha, Jasmine and Tommy. Jessica (Kent) Swaim of New Market, MD, and their children William, Athalia, Zayna and Eliana; and sisters-in-law, Ramona “Meek” Spartz of Kranzburg, SD, and Jeanette King of Watertown, SD.

To greet her in Heaven are her husband, parents and brothers.
