Obituary for Leone M. Olson
Leone M. Olson, age 88, of Watertown, SD, passed away on Tuesday, January 25, 2022 at Avantara Watertown Nursing Home.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., with visitation starting at 12:00 pm., on Monday, January 31, 2022 at Wight & Comes Funeral Chapel with Pastor Janet Miller officiating.
Honorary groups will be all Leone's relatives and friends.
Leone Miriam Page was born July 2, 1933 at Henry, SD to Leo and Miriam (Carr) Page. She spent the first 18 years on a farm near Henry. She started school at the age of 7 at a rural country school. She then attended school at Henry. Leone worked at home on the farm and for the neighbors caring for their children.
On September 6, 1951 she married Earl J. Olson in Watertown, SD. They farmed with Leone's dad for about 4 years. The couple then moved to Watertown where Earl worked for Lampert Lumber Co. In 1965 Leone and Earl moved to Aberdeen, SD and Leone was employed at several placed but loved caring for children and working with them in the schools. In 2001 she became a Foster Grandparent working in the schools and she loved it. Leone and Earl moved to Watertown in August of 2003 and Leone became a Foster Grandparent at Watertown Christian School.
Her beloved husband, Earl passed away on November 26, 2014.
Leone is survived by her daughters, Beth L. (Jeff Ell) Olson of Aberdeen and Kathryn "Kathy" Bakke of Watertown; three grandchildren: twins, Jason and Jordan Bakke and Samantha Lynn (Michael) Haaland; three great-grandchildren, Brooke, Benson and Briggs Haaland; and one brother, Gene Page of Watertown.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Earl; four brothers; and three sisters.
