Obituary for Lon M. Sumner
Lon M. Sumner, age 91, of Watertown, SD passed away on Sunday, September 29, 2019 at Avantara Watertown.
There will be private family services for Lon. Sympathy cards may be sent to the family of Lon Sumner: 1001 Cherry Dr., Watertown, SD 57201.
Interment will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Watertown.
Pallbearers will be Chad Paulson, Kelly Maag, Wade Sumner, Tony Sumner, Brett Sumner and Dick Van Cleave.
Lon Maurice was born on February 1, 1928 at Florence, South Dakota to Gerald Seldon “Barney” and Ruth Henrietta (Gutgesell) Sumner. He attended the South Dakota School for the Blind in Gary.
Lon lived in California and managed a little shop in a federal building where he sold newspapers, candy and cigarettes.
He loved reading and listening to sports on the radio. He was a member of the Lions Club and the Association of the Blind.
Lon is survived by his sisters, Linda (Richard “Dick”) Van Cleave of Lino Lakes, MN and Janice Paulson of Watertown, SD; his brother, Danny (Karen) Sumner of Watertown, SD; and his sisters-in-law, Mona Sumner of North Carolina, Donna Sumner of Watertown, SD and Dianne Sumner of Watertown, SD; and his nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gerald and Ruth Sumner; his brothers, George, Harvey, Dean, Larry (Pat), Wayne (Carol), Woody and Wendell; his brother-in-law, Robert Paulson; and his sisters, Joy (Dave) Westwood and Lola (Mark) Olson.
