Obituary for Mae L. Mudder

Mae Mudder, age 85, of Watertown, SD passed away Tuesday, March 3, 2020 at Jenkins Living Center.

Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 7, 2020 at First Baptist Church in Watertown with Reverend Charles Warger officiating.

Visitation will be 5-7:00 p.m., Friday, March 6th at the Wight & Comes Funeral Chapel in Watertown.

Interment will be at Hendricks City Cemetery at Hendricks, MN.

Honorary Pallbearer will be Dale Kludt and Scott Walker.

Pallbearers will be Travis Schueller, Joe Schueller, Matthew Mudder, David Mudder, Jerry Walker and Clint Anderson.

Mae LaVonne was born July 17, 1934 to John S. and Zadie G. (Frybarger) Fry in St. Paul Park, Minnesota. The family lived in a number of small towns in Minnesota before Hastings, Minnesota. She graduated from Hastings High School and after graduation Mae worked in a bank at Hastings until her marriage to John. Mae and John Mudder were united in marriage on January 21, 1956 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. The couple lived in Fargo, North Dakota before moving to Watertown, South Dakota. Mae did some waitressing and then was employed at Farmers & Merchants Bank for nine years. She did day-care in her home for ten years and then worked at First Federal Savings & Loan for seven years. Mae also displayed and sold Home Interior & Gifts for seven years.

Mae was very active in the community and her church. She taught Sunday school, was chairman of evening circle and social communion. She also was church trustee, financial secretary, worked with summer Bible school and was a member of the building committee for the new church at that time. Mae was also busy with Cub Scouts, Girls Scouts and the PTA.

Mae and John camped for many years with family and friends. They wintered in Mesa, Arizona for over 15 years.

They were very proud of their grandkids and attended their activities when possible.

Mae is survived by her daughter, Deb Schueller of Primghar, IA and children, Travis (Kristin) Schueller and children, Macie, Knox and Avery of Armstrong, IA; Joe (Brook) Schueller and children, Kale, Ava and Ella of Spencer, IA; and Katie (Cole) Leiding and children, Landyn and Laythe of Primghar, IA; her son, Gary Mudder of Watertown, SD and his children, David Mudder of Minneapolis, MN and Matt (PaNhia) Mudder and children, Jonathan and Lucas of Brooklyn Park, MN; her sister, Melva Jane Proechel of Hastings, MN; and several nieces and nephews.

Mae was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John; her son-in-law, Jerry Schueller; and brothers and sisters.
