Margaret Katherine (Perry) Kranz quietly and peacefully met our dear Lord and the loving embrace of her husband Bud on July 10, 2019. In our own sadness, we are comforted to know that although death separated them for 38 years. It is now in death that their love and spirits are reunited. They are together forever in peace.

Margaret was born on November 9, 1929, in Watertown, South Dakota to Bernard and Anna Perry. She grew up on a farm southeast of Watertown. She graduated from Watertown High School in 1947. She was employed at Woolworths and the Red Owl Store. On January 12, 1948, she married the love of her life, Francis “Bud” Kranz at Immaculate Conception Church in Watertown. They lived in Kranzburg, Watertown, Redfield, Castlewood, and Huron, South Dakota before moving to Montevideo, Minnesota in 1963. After several years they relocated once more; living in Crystal and Shoreview, Minnesota.
After Bud’s death in 1980, Margaret again joined the workforce and became a successful Farmers Insurance Agent. She enjoyed the public contact and relished the personalized care she gave her clients. Even late into her life, she amazed people with her knowledge of cars. She knew the makes, models, and years of the cars she would pass on the road. Upon her retirement, she moved to Stillwater, Minnesota.

Margaret’s interests were varied. Throughout her life, she was active in many organizations, such as school PTA, Boy Scouts, Bowling, Avon, gardening and walking. She even tried ice skating until the broken arm incident. She was a long time member of St. Odilia Catholic Church in Shoreview. Though chiefly, it was her husband, family, and friends that she was most devoted to.

Although Bud and Margaret moved away from their families in South Dakota, Margaret never lost the importance of her connection to family. As personal and medical tragedy would strike, extended family members would need to travel to Minneapolis. Margaret always opened her home and heart to them. Relatives stayed at her house and she would make sure they got to and from medical appointments. Always a gracious hostess, everyone young or old was made to feel welcome in the Kranz home.

She was loved by many and will be missed by all.

She was preceded in death by her husband Francis “Bud” Kranz; her son Ronald Kranz; her parents Bernard and Anna Perry; her five sisters - Rosemary Holzemer, Eleanor Mack, Patricia Lindner, Bernadine “Bunny” Tesch and Mary Ann Fleming; her son-in-law John Richtsmeier.

Margaret is survived by her children: Charlotte A Kranz of Fort Lauderdale, FL, James W (Jeannie) Kranz of Boise, ID, Frances E (John) Richtsmeier of Hugo, MN, Perry N (Sue) Kranz of Arden Hills, MN, Ellen M (Peter) Fastner of San Antonio, TX and Karen K Mohs of Inver Grove Heights, MN; daughter-in-law Gail (Ronald) Kranz; and her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
