Marlene Kay Bohls was born July 3rd, 1951, the 4th child of Edward and Barbara (Bohls) Mack. She attended Holy Rosary in Kranzburg through 8th grade, then Waverly School where she graduated in 1969 with Valedictorian honors. She received her nursing education at St. John’s University, VoTech and Presentation College.

While at a dance in Kranzburg, Marlene caught the eye of Don Bohls. He asked her to dance and they liked each other so much they began dating. During the Winter of 1972, Don asked Marlene to marry him and they were joined in Holy Matrimony July 14th, 1973 in Kranzburg. They resided on a farm near Castlewood. Their 1st daughter, Bridget Kay arrived in 1974. Son, Donald Jeremy and daughter, Carmen Noel joined them in 1976. They moved to Watertown in 1978. In 1983, daughter Lyndsey Jo was born.

Marlene and Don celebrated 47 years of marriage this year.

During Marlene’s career in nursing, she worked at St. Ann’s, Estelline, Memorial and Prairie Lakes Hospitals. Her passion in life was caring for people. She absolutely loved delivering babies and it’s estimated that she delivered over 20 babies on her own. She had to retire from Nursing in 2010 due to health reasons.

Marlene was a shining example of how to love selflessly. Once she was no longer able to be in Nursing as a Vocation, caring for others through prayer, became her focus. Her smile lit up any room she entered. She loved visiting with people, learning their story and through that they came to love her. Her journey these last years was filled with numerous health challenges. Yet through it all, she kept her faith, smile and hope for the future. She loved to be with her family and spend time with grandchildren, who lovingly named her Honey.

Grateful for having shared her life are her husband, Don. Her children: Bridget (Pete) Bauman, Jeremy, Carmen (Jason) Venjohn and Lyndsey. Grandchildren: Jake, Connor, Charlie and Avery Bauman. Siblings: Melvin Mack, Elaine (Jim) Lenards, Delrita (Howard) Hopper, LeeAnn (Steve) Maag.

She is preceded in death by her daughter, Lyndsey and parents, Edward and Barbara.
