It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our sister, Martha Helen Mattingly, also known as Marty.

Marty passed away January 1, 2022 at Avantara Nursing Home in Watertown, SD.

Marty was born on June 27th, 1950 in Calexico, CA as the 3rd of 4 children to Margery (Haugen) Mattingly and James Mattingly. She attended grade school in Calexico and Brawley, CA before moving with her mom and family to Watertown, SD. She graduated from Watertown High School in 1968.

Following high school, she completed her LPN training at Lake Area Vocational Technical School. After a couple of years, Marty and her mom moved to Huntington Beach, CA to be closer to her older brother James and his family.

Marty returned to college in California and earned her RN degree. Marty came from a family of nurses as both her mom and older sister Mary were part of the nursing profession. She loved nursing, and she excelled at it.

She was a charge nurse for the Pediatric Oncology Intensive Care Unit at the Children’s Hospital of Orange County. Marty and her mom later moved back to Watertown, SD, where Marty was a nurse at several facilities, including Jenkins Living Center.

Marty enjoyed watching all types of movies and taking care of her dogs.

Marty is preceded in death by her mother, Margery, and her older brother, James.

Marty is survived by her older sister Mary Mattingly Muat (Drake) of Huntington Beach, CA, her younger brother Dave Mattingly (Sue) of Watertown, SD, sister-in-law Dorothy Mattingly of Grapevine, TX and extended family in South Dakota, Minnesota, and Tennessee. She is deeply loved and will be missed.

We wish to thank all the staff at Avantara and Prairie Lakes Hospice for the excellent care Marty received.
