Obituary for Marvin C. West

Marvin C. West, age 99, of Watertown, S.D., passed away on October 11, 2021 at Prairie Lakes Hospital in Watertown.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m., Monday, October 18, 2021 at Grace Lutheran Church in Watertown with Pastor Reino Maunu conducting the services. Wanda Laue will be the organist, Darlene West as the pianist and Eunie West as the soloist.

Marvin's service will be recorded and added to his obituary page when available.

Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m., Sunday, October 17th at Grace Lutheran Church.

Interment will be at New Hope Lutheran Cemetery, northwest of Hayti, SD with full Military Honors.

Pallbearers will be Bryan Carstensen, Nathaniel West, Andrew West, Tyler West, Samuel West, Thomas West and William West.

Marvin Curtis West was born on November 15, 1921 in Hamlin County to Floyd and Bertha (Hanson) West. He grew up in Watertown and graduated from Watertown High School in 1939.

Marvin served in the United States Army from 1942 through 1946 spending time in Belgium, France and Germany. He has been a member of the American Legion for over 65 years.

He later attended the University of South Dakota graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management. After graduation he was supervisor of bookkeeping at Farmers & Merchants Bank before starting his own business, The Wheel Inn Café. Marvin and LaVern Zamow started L & M Investments, a partnership that would last over 65 years, developing many businesses in Watertown.

Marvin was a member of the Apostolic Lutheran Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and traveling. He also enjoyed spending time with his nieces and nephews and family. Marvin hosted many family gatherings and his home was always open to family.

Marvin was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Bertha (Hanson) West, his brother LaVern L. West, his brother Orville West and wife Betty, three nephews Floyd, Clark, and Jerrold West, and one niece Nancy (West) Warnke.

He is survived by his sister-in-law Marian West; numerous nieces and nephews, Dale (Nila)
West, Sharon (Gary) Carstensen, Bradley (Wanda) West, Mark (Elaine) West, Kathleen (Mark) Seppala, Marlin (Christine) West, Glenda West, Mike (Jean) West, LeAnn (Dan) Olin, Cindy (James) Benjamson, Sandra (Loren) Seppanen, Jane (Lowell) Stenersen, Oneil (Lori) West, Allyn (Eunie) West, Jon (Darlene) West, April (Dan) Inman and Becka (Tim) Hoard; and his business partner LaVern (Sylvia) Zamow.
