Obituary for Mary Anne Resen
Mary Anne Ruth Resen, age 91, of Florence, SD passed away on June 9, 2021 at her daughter's residence in Colorado Springs, CO.
Funeral services will be 2:00 pm, Saturday, June 19, 2021 at New Helgen Lutheran Church in Florence, with visitation one hour prior to the service.
Pastor Sue Sinclair will officiate with Dorothy Anderson as the organist.
Interment will be at Goodhue Cemetery near Florence.
Honorary pallbearers will be all of her grandchildren.

Mary Anne was born December 17, 1929, in Watertown, SD, to Alfred and Ruth Soreng. Her father died when she was young and her mother was often sick so she spent a lot of time living with her cousins and aunts and uncles. She graduated from Florence High School, worked in Aberdeen a short while, and married Arthur Resen on July 15, 1951, at Goodhue Lutheran Church near Florence. She was a lifelong member of the Florence Lutheran churches, Goodhue and New Helgen.
At her childhood home she and Art built up a farming and chicken operation which helped keep her kids busy as they grew, all the while caring for her aging mother. After retiring, her love of travel led her to many trips with family throughout the US and beyond.
She was blessed with many children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and seemed most happy when with them. Her life was lived in the world of our better natures, always kind, caring and forgiving, and her faith and example helped lead her family through difficult times. She passed her final years of illness in the care of family, and will be laid to rest at Goodhue Lutheran Church near her lifelong home in rural Florence.
Mary Anne is survived by her sons John of Yakima, Washington, David (Maribeth) of Ripon, Wisconsin, and Andrew of Florence; her daughters Diane (Gary) Byer of Florence, Debbie (Rob) Fox of Sioux Falls, Beth (Dave) Reilly of Florence, Julie (Alan) Personius of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Jane (Randy) Derby of Estelline; 21 grandchildren: Nicole, Kristin, Sam, Bailey, Jared, Stacey, Chad, Danielle, Carolyn, Andrea, Jacob, Kara, Jason, Kami, Jenna, Katie, Sarah, Daniel, Jessica, Melissa, and Michaela; 35 great-grandchildren; her sister-in-law Anne Resen of Yakima, Washington; and her brother-in-law Ed (Muriel) Resen of Cheney, Washington.
She was preceded in death by her parents Alfred and Ruth Soreng, her husband Arthur, her son Daniel, her son-in-law Tim Sumner, her great-grandson Konner Schleusner, and her great-granddaughter Hope Fox.
