Mary Ann (Frey) Beck was born July 6, 1933 to Alfred Emil Frey and Helen Christina (Batterman) Frey, in a farm house 5 miles south and 1 mile east of Tripp, SD at the farm of Alfred Frey’s uncle, Edwin Wiederich. Mary Ann was baptized August 9, 1933. She was confirmed in Christ’s faith in 1948 at the Reformed Church in Tripp, SD. Mary went to country school, known as the Wiederich School, where she attended school through the eighth grade. One of her proudest accomplishments was the completion of her GED later in life. The Frey family moved to the city of Tripp.

On October 4, 1953, Mary Ann was united in marriage to John Elmer Beck in Tripp, SD. Mary Ann and Elmer had five children, Lynn Marie, Cheryl Ann, Gene Allen, Tamara Kaye and Annette Renee. In 1959, they moved to Aberdeen, WA with their daughters, Lynn Marie, Cheryl Ann and son Gene Allen. They later returned to Tripp in 1961. Tamara Kaye, and Annette Renee joined the family. Mary Ann worked as a cook for the Checkerboard Lounge in Kaylor, SD for ten years, the Tripp Good Samaritan Home, Tripp Public School for 22 years and Casey’s in Parkston, SD. She then worked one summer in Keystone, SD.

In 2008, Mary Ann moved to Watertown, to be closer to family. She was employed at County Fair Foods, and worked in the Deli and Produce departments. She retired in 2014 due to health reasons. Mary Ann had an extraordinary work ethic, she was a dedicated employee and was loved by all.

She was a loyal daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and friend to many. Mary loved her dogs over the years, Pennie, Sassie, and Annie, they brought her much joy and companionship.

Mary Ann was a faithful servant of God, her faith was evident in her everyday life, and she ingrained this faith to all of her family. Mary Ann overcame many obstacles in her life, and losses, but she always rose above it all with her dedicated faith in Christ. She always told us that no matter what happens in our lives, God will always get us through. She was the most considerate, kind, strong independent woman, and her love for her family was the most important thing in her life. Her love for her children was unconditional and pure.

Some hobbies Mary Ann enjoyed were gardening, sewing, crocheting, fishing and baking and of course cooking. She also enjoyed watching the Hallmark Channel, game shows and listening to Christian Music.

Mary Ann went to her heavenly home on February 16, 2020 at the age of 86. She talked often about how glorious it would be to finally be in the arms of her heavenly Father and to have that eternal home with God.

Blessed to have shared her life were her 5 children: Lynn Marie (Beck) Dubois and husband Rick Carl of Boise, ID, Cheryl Ann (Beck) Cole and husband James Cole of Oberlin, KS, Gene Allen Beck of Rapid City, SD, Tamara Kaye (Beck) Flores and husband Anthony Flores of Rapid City, SD and Annette Renee (Beck) Gamber and husband Jeff Gamber of Watertown, SD.
Mary Ann had 12 grandchildren: Chasidy, Stacy, JJ, Jamie, Jordan, Kevin, Cheryl Lynn, Malia, Ty Gamber, Tyler Thuringer, Chris and Chad and 20 great-grandchildren and one on the way. They all brought her so much joy, and happiness.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Donald Frey and Darvin Frey, and sister Darlene Kracht.

A visitation will be held at Wight & Comes Funeral Chapel in Watertown, SD, Wednesday, February 19th from 5-7 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, February 20, 2020 at St. Martin’s Lutheran Church in Watertown, SD.

A visitation will also be held at Emmaus Lutheran Church in Tripp, SD on Friday, February 21, 2020 from 11 a.m.-12 p.m., with a committal service at Grace Hills Cemetery in Tripp at 1 p.m.

The family would like to thank everyone who was blessed to have been a part of our Mother’s life. For their friendship and love. She will be forever missed but never forgotten.

The most caring, understanding mother ever God blessed us 5 children with, she shared her love for Jesus with us all. She would want us to be at peace and know she is in her heavenly home with her Savior and her family. She lived a long life and brought all of us happiness and joy. She is free of pain and worry and is enjoying her peaceful eternal life something she looked foward to. Thank you to everyone for your prayers. Friendships, cards, blessings, flowers and support. We live to honor our mothers legacy, love one another and be faithful to God. And above all be kind. Gods blessings to you all. The family of Mary Ann Beck
