Mary Johanna was born on December 27, 1927 to Francis “Frank” Theodore and Veronica Mary (Cauley) Flemming near Florence, South Dakota. Mary Jo attended Popham Country District School #62 located east of Florence until the eighth grade, ninth grade at Immaculate Conception Catholic School and then graduated from Watertown High School in 1945. Being the oldest of seven children, she was often tasked with helping take care of the siblings and household chores.

Mary Jo was employed as a secretary for the State of Minnesota, just three months shy of 41 years, from 1953 –1994.

Mary Jo never forgot a birthday and was sad that she was unable to keep sending cards in the last few years. She was a very loving and generous person. Mary Jo enjoyed doing embroidery. Many were gifted with her talents with pillow cases she embroidered and that her mother had crocheted the edges. She enjoyed traveling having been around the United States, Ireland, the Holy Land and many other European countries.

Mary Jo’s Irish eyes were always smiling when she had the opportunity to share the Irish heritage with family and friends. Her life was a blessing to many over the years.

Mary Jo is survived by her sister, Madelyn Kozitza of Burnsville, MN; her brothers, Vincent (Shirley) Flemming of Wakonda, John (Janice) Flemming of Ankeny, IA, Paul (Connie) Flemming of Florence, Francis Flemming of Watertown, sister-in-law, Joan Hemp; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Bernard Flemming; and several nieces and nephews.
