Obituary for Mary Tschakert

Mary E. Tschakert, age 83, of Florence, SD, passed away on Wednesday, June 1, 2022 at Jenkins Living Center.

Visitation will be from 5:30-7:30 p.m., with a scripture service at 7:30 p.m., on Sunday, June 5, 2022 at the Wight & Comes Funeral Chapel in Watertown.

Funeral mass will be at 10:00 a.m., with a Rosary prior to the service on Monday, June 6, 2022 at the Blessed Sacrament Church in Florence with Father Greg Tschakert officiating. LeeAnn Maag will be the soloist accompanied by Carolyn Maag.

Burial will be in the Esterly Cemetery, Florence, SD.

Pallbearers will be Mary's grandsons: Lance Becking, Casey Miller, Kirby Tschakert, Nicholas Tschakert, Mitchell Tschakert and Dawson Tschakert.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Mary's granddaughters: Megan Block, Brooke Miller and Delanie Tschakert.

Mary Elizabeth Tschakert was born to Henri and Martha (Vervynck) Roegiers on August 10, 1938 on a farm near Artesian, SD. She went to a country school near Artesian. Mary did two years of high school at Bryant and graduated from Lake Preston in 1956. She worked at Luverne, MN and Mitchell, SD before coming to work at Sioux Valley Co-op in Watertown where she met Willard "Bill" Tschakert in 1957. They were married on June 9, 1959 and lived on their farm for 31 years.

Bill and Mary built a home in Florence in 1990 when their oldest son got married. Mary enjoyed being a farm wife and continued to take meals out to her husband and son or they would come in for meals. She loved flowers and always had a garden.

Living close to the church gave Mary an opportunity to work there for 30+ years. She put together the Community Calendar for 25 years. She belonged to Extension for 25 years and also belonged to the Ladies Altar Society.

Mary is survived by her children: Marjorie (Todd) Miller of Watertown, SD, their children, Lance (Kelsey) Becking, Casey Miller and Brooke Miller; Martin (Carmen) Tschakert of Florence, SD, their children, Megan (Aaron) Block and son Bodie, and Kirby Tschakert; and Merle (Sara) Tschakert of Watertown, SD, their children Nicholas (Ashley McIntire) Tschakert, Mitchell (Shayla) Tschakert, Dawson (Grace) Tschakert and Delanie Tschakert; and one brother, Francis Roegiers of San Diego, CA.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Bill, and two sisters Lucille Christensen and Elaine Austin.
