Obituary for Maryann Louise Cummings

Maryann Louise (Krohnberg) Cummings passed peacefully on December 13, 2021, at the age of 85.

A memorial service is scheduled on April 8, 2022 at the Wight and Comes Funeral Home in Watertown, SD. The service will begin at 11:00 a.m. with a lunch to follow.

Maryann was born on October 31, 1936 to John and Lily Krohnberg of Clark Township, Minnesota. She graduated from high school in Alden, Minnesota in 1954, then went on to business school in Albert Lea, Minnesota.

On January 3, 1959, she married Jerry Cummings of Wells, Minnesota. The couple lived in St. Paul, Minnesota while Jerry completed his degree in veterinary medicine at the University of Minnesota. The couple moved to Watertown, South Dakota in 1963 where Jerry joined the Watertown Animal Clinic, P.A. as a partner veterinarian.

Maryann and Jerry had four children and Maryann was a stay at home mom while the children were young. She was strong, fiercely independent, and taught her children daily the importance of love and family. The Cummings’ door was always open and Maryann would often add an extra plate at the table for anyone who might drop by, especially her kids’ friends. She enjoyed bowling, playing bridge, and refereeing from the stands at her children’s athletic events. In addition, Maryann volunteered in several capacities at FUMC, with Girl Scouts, and as a softball coach. After Jerry got sick and her kids had grown some, Maryann went back to work as a bookkeeper at First United Methodist Church, The Outfitter and then Trav’s Outfitter. She retired at age 75.

Maryann is preceded in death by her parents, John and Lily Krohnberg and her husband Jerry.

She is survived by her sister and bother-in-law, Helen and Lamar Kuster of Waseca, MN; her brother-in-law and wife, Tom and Genell Cummings of Rochester, MN; and her sister-in-law, MerryDee Wachal of Sioux Falls, SD. She is also survived by her four children: Kristi Cummings-Little (Larry Little) of Watertown, SD; Timothy Cummings (Renee) of Watertown; Nancy Johnson of Des Moines, IA; and Lori Saucedo ( Matthew Saucedo) of Austin, TX; and 10 grandchildren, Matthew and Jessica Johnson; Jacob and Margaret Johnson; Alli, Cade, Anni and Abbi Cummings; and William and Sofia Saucedo.
