Obituary for Michael Willis Hartman

Michael Willis “Mike” Hartman, 64, of Sioux City passed away on November 2, 2021 after a yearlong battle with throat cancer.

Michael was born on July 20, 1957 at Providence Memorial Hospital in El Paso, Texas, the son of Robert Willis “Bob” Hartman and Sheryl Ann (Reed) Hartman. His father was stationed at Fort Bliss Military base at the time.

As a child the family often relocated due to his father’s job, and Mike attended several schools, living in Fargo, North Dakota and Cleveland, Ohio, among others. When the family moved to Sioux City, Mike was just ending his high school years, and he graduated with the Sioux City East High School class of 1975. In his youth Mike won several trophies for playing hockey.

He then moved to Nashville, Tennessee and enrolled in Draughons Business College, completing a degree in business administration. During this time he attained a southern accent and charm that would stay with him through his life.

Mike relocated back to Sioux City and furthered his studies at Western Iowa Tech. Mike held numerous jobs in Sioux City over the years. At age 32 he became a father to his son, Robby.

He had an interest in history and could often be found watching the History Channel. He loved classic cars and antiques, one of his favorite shows was ‘Antiques Roadshow’. Mike enjoyed spending time outside, doing activities like hiking, swimming, hunting, and fishing. He also enjoyed playing golf and watching football.

Michael is survived by his only child, Robby Harrington of Orlando, FL, his father, Bob Hartman of Sioux Falls, SD, two brothers, Steve (Linette) Hartman of Fargo, ND, and Brent Hartman of Watertown, SD, two sisters, Lynn Manrique of Sioux Falls, SD and Mary (Duane) Fonger of Superior, WI, an uncle, Mike Reed of Denver, CO, three aunts, Bonnie Davis of Denver, CO, Grace Paulson of Watertown, SD, and Pat Bonfoey of Sioux Falls, SD, one niece, and five nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Sheryl Hartman, his brother, Brian Hartman, an uncle, Gene Hartman, and an aunt, Mary Jane Rea.

Graveside services will be at 11:30 a.m., Friday, April 1, 2022 at Rose Hill Cemetery, Clark, SD.
