Obituary for Mildred F. "Millie" Thomas

Millie Thomas, age 82 of Watertown, SD passed away Friday, July 24, 2020.

Funeral services will be 1:00 pm, Thursday, July 30, 2020 at First United Methodist Church in Watertown. Interment will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Watertown.

Visitation will be at the First United Methodist Church from 5-7:00 pm, Wednesday, July 29, 2020.

Family requests everyone to wear masks although not mandatory. Thank you.

In lieu of flowers family requests memorials.

Pallbearers will be Todd Becking, Bill Becking, Doug Wishard, Doug Peterson, Scott Murphy and Ronda Pommeroy.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Cal and Jackie Hillesland family.


Mildred Frances was born on October 21, 1937 to Edward and Nellie (Small) Becking in Watertown, South Dakota. She grew up in Florence, South Dakota and graduated in 1956 from Florence High School.

Millie and John “Jack” Thomas were united in marriage on April 8, 1956 at St. Martin’s Lutheran Church in Watertown. Jack and Millie lived near Florence where they raised their family on their farm. After the kids started school she worked at the sale barn for five years. Millie then was employed by JC Penney’s for 24 years. After retirement she went to work for the Borns Group as a mail carrier. The couple moved to Watertown in 1987.

Millie loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and gardening and her cows on the farm. She was also known for raising and selling her Maltese and Yorkie puppies.

She is survived by her loving husband, Jack Thomas of Watertown; her devoted children, Warren (Audrey) Thomas of Watertown; Keith (Shelley) Thomas of Sioux Falls, and Heather (fiancé, Dale Johnson) Thomas of Watertown; five grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; her siblings, Karen (Duane) Murphy of Marshall, MN, Karyl Wishard of Watertown and David (Laurie) Becking of Florence; her sisters-in-law, Karyn Becking of Florence and Dorothy Pommeroy of Cedar Rapids, IA; her dear friend, Sandy Becking of Florence; and many nieces and nephews.

Millie was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Richard Becking.
