Obituary for Mildred L. Tronvold

Mildred Tronvold; age 100, passed away peacefully under hospice care at Prairie Lakes Hospital on August 22, 2020.

Mildred LeMoyne Ganzhorn was born on November 14, 1919, in Woodbine, Iowa, to Henry and Maude Ganzhorn. She grew up on the family farm and attended school in Woodbine. She graduated high school in 1937 and went on to Business School in Council Bluffs. The following year she moved to Vermillion, South Dakota, and worked for Central Natural Gas as a bookkeeper. In Vermillion, she met the love of her life, Jay Tronvold. They were married on September 1, 1940 in the home of her uncle, Judge Ray Collar. Mildred continued to work in bookkeeping positions while Jay was active in WWII, and while he was in college.
Jay and Mildred moved to Huron in 1948 and became avid bridge players and enjoyed all types of dancing. In 1956 they moved to Watertown, S.D. and continued dancing weekly at various venues and were active in many bridge groups.

Mildred was well known in the bridge community for her keen sense of cards and playing various conventions in the bridge game. She would entertain the family with tales of a grand slam, or a seven no trump bid. Of course, there was the occasional “I just didn’t get the cards today.” Mildred loved teaching new players her tricks and shared her bridge skills with many bridge players in Watertown. She also loved playing cards with her grandsons, teaching them skills and strategy.

Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, her step mother Edith Ganzhorn, her husband, Julius "Jay" Tronvold, brothers Lynn and Lloyd, sisters-in-law Lottie, Della, and Oma.

Mildred is survived by her children, Bard (Dixie) Tronvold of Clear Lake, and Deb (John) Moorse of Maple Grove, MN; her grandchildren, Ben Moorse of Fargo, ND, and Ryan (Ashley Liegakos) Moorse of Prior Lake, MN; and great-grandchildren, Paige and Seth Moorse.

Due to Covid 19, there will be a private family graveside service at Mount Hope Cemetery in Watertown on Tuesday, September 1, 2020.

Urn bearers will be Ben and Ryan Moorse.

Memorials are preferred to Grace Lutheran Church, 202 2nd St. SE, Watertown, SD 57201 or Prairie Lakes Hospice, 401 9th Ave. NW, Watertown, SD 57201.
