Obituary for Milton Ordean Flisrand

Milton O. Flisrand, age 86, of Badger, SD, passed away on Saturday, January 14, 2023, at Prairie Lakes Hospital in Watertown.

Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m., Friday January 20, 2023, at the Wight & Comes Funeral Chapel in Watertown.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday January 21, 2023, at the Badger Lutheran Church in Badger, SD with Reverend Brian Ricke officiating. Military honors will be conducted by Kingsbury County American Legion. With soloist Saryn Schaefbauer.

Interment will be at Helgen Lutheran Cemetery, rural Florence, SD, to be performed later.

Pallbearers: Tom Pickering, John Johnson, Jim Begalka, Arnold Sween, Robert Kasdorf, Dennis Alderman, Tom Kasdorf and Robert Friskey.

Honorary Pallbearers (Grandchildren): Jessica Williams, Amanda Vester, Brandon Pederson, Michael Warborg, Connor Pederson, Kyja Flisrand, Alexzaria Flisrand and Aryanna Flisrand.

Milton Ordean Flisrand was born to Oscar and Alma (Aaker) Flisrand on December 8, 1936, on the family farm near Lake Albert (north of Arlington, SD). He attended country school near home and Arlington High School. He joined the United States Navy in 1954 and was stationed aboard the USS Sigourney for two years and sang in the Blue Jacket Choir. He then served aboard the USS Cascade for one year. After Milton was honorably discharged from his military service in 1958, he attended South Dakota State University majoring in agriculture earning a two-year degree.

On April 27, 1963, Milton married Joyce Marie Kasdorf in Estelline, SD. They were blessed with four children, Teresa, Tina, Todd and Travise. Milton farmed on the family farm near Arlington, SD until 1988, and then drove a grain truck until 2007.

Milton enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren. Well known for his entertaining songs, he used his talents to lift the spirits of his family. His talents as a vocalist were also utilized at many weddings and local events. As a family historian he shared the stories of the family farm with those who visited, showing off historical items found from the local area. He served on the Arlington Museum board and had a special interest in stained glass creating beautiful pieces he shared with the family and others.

Milton is survived by his wife, Joyce Flisrand; his children, Teresa Warborg of Sioux Falls, Tina Pederson of Estelline, Todd Flisrand of Watertown, Travise Flisrand of Arlington, 8 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, one brother: Richard (Ann) Flisrand of Austin, MN; one sister: Grace (Richard) Pickering of Brandon, SD, and his nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Norma Froehner and grandchildren: Heather Lynn Warborg, Logan Allen Pederson, Eric Dakota Flisrand and great grandson Gunther John Williams.
