Obituary for Mylo Clarien Andersen

Mylo C. Andersen, age 95, of Watertown, SD, passed away on Saturday, April 9, 2022 at Jenkins Living Center in Watertown.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 13, 2022 at Christian Life Assembly of God Church in Watertown.

Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m., on Thursday, April 14, 2022 at the Christian Life Assembly of God Church in Watertown with Reverend Cliff Sheldon officiating. Music will be furnished by vocalists, Barry, Shari and Sara Kjetland, Rachel and Tucker Dargatz, Violinist, Sara Kjetland and pianist, A.J. Sherrill.

Interment will be in the Black Hills National Cemetery, Sturgis, SD.

Mylo Clarien Andersen, son of Ernest C. and Vida (Falstad) Andersen was born on February 12, 1927 in Viborg, SD. He went to country school until the 2nd grade and graduated in 1945 at Viborg School. One week after graduation, Mylo joined the United States Army in May of 1945. He served in the Signal Corp attached to the 102nd Infantry Division, (Bayreuth, Germany) and was then transferred to the 1st Infantry Division (Regensberg, Germany) the Big Red 1. Mylo was awarded the Army Occupation Medal and the World War II Victory Ribbon at the time he was honorably discharged on November 4, 1946.

Mylo attended Coyne Electrical School in Chicago, IL in January of 1947, graduating in June of 1948 (GI Bill). He worked in Bryant, SD for Roland Holm fixing radios after graduation. They then purchased tools and supplies to begin wiring homes.

Mylo moved to Watertown and worked at Swift's Packing Plant in 1948. Later in 1948, Mylo worked for Iverson Electric in Watertown and eventually bought the business in July of 1964 and changed the name to Andersen Electric in 1965.

He met Marlys Wendland, his sweetheart, in August of 1949 and they were married on June 13, 1950 at Christian Life Assembly of God Church in Watertown. They were the first couple who were married in that church. To this union, their son and daughter, David and Shari, were born. Mylo and Marlys celebrated 61 years together on June 13, 2011. Marlys passed away on June 28, 2011.

Mylo loved woodworking, collecting rocks, ham radio, and photography. He also loved lapidary work, leatherwork, baking and fixing or building anything. Most of all, he loved his family and his church family, and had a very deep faith in God. He was regarded as the Grandpa of the church by many.

He was a member of the Frank H. Adams Post 750 of the VFW.

Mylo is survived by his daughter, Shari (Barry) Kjetland of Watertown, SD; his daughter-in-law, Leslie Andersen of Woodridge, IL; three granddaughters, Juliana Andersen (David Lipowski) of Bolingbrook, IL, Sara Kjetland of Pierre, SD, and Rachel (Tucker) Dargatz of Ellendale, ND; and his step grandson, Jeffrey (Tracy) Davis of Phoenix, AZ.

He was preceded in death by his wife Marlys Andersen, his son David R. Andersen, his parents Ernest and Vida Andersen, and his sister Adeline Austin.
