Obituary for Patricia M. "Patti" Linngren

Patricia M. Linngren
January 4, 1944 – October 25, 2020

Patricia (Welch) Linngren, age 76, of Watertown, passed away peacefully Sunday, October 25, 2020 at Jenkins Living Center in Watertown.

A public memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, April 24, 2021, with visitation for one hour prior to the services at the First United Methodist Church in Watertown.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Doris Bue, Kay Christianson, Corolyn Edison, Mary Haggar, Paige Hanson, Peggy Haugan, Bonnie Morgans, Mary Morrison, Jane Olson, Lynn Schaefer, Lynn Sheil, Judy Strom, Carol Wagner, Kathy Waletich, Esther Welch, Karyl Wishard and The Brown Clinic "Crew".

Patricia (Patti) Marie Welch was born on January 4, 1944 to Frank and Irma (Soper) Welch in Watertown, South Dakota. She was proud of having spent her early years in Rauville, South Dakota where her family operated the service station and lunch counter. She moved to Watertown in 1952 and graduated from Watertown High School in 1962. Patti attended South Dakota State University and Northern State College.

Patti married David M. Linngren on August 21, 1965 in the First United Methodist Church in Watertown. She worked at Midland National Life, the Fourth Street Clinic and the Brown Clinic before becoming a full-time homemaker. She returned to work at the Brown Clinic when her children were older, where she worked at the appointment desk. Patti was recognized several times for her outstanding patient service at the clinic. After retiring from the clinic, she worked at Wight & Comes Funeral Chapel, making bereavement calls, until her full retirement.

Patti was an active member of the First United Methodist Church her entire life. She sang in the choir (self-admittedly humming through most the high notes), taught Sunday School, gave several Children’s Sermons (often with live props) and served on a number of committees. She served on the board of directors for Habitat for Humanity Greater Watertown Region for a number of years. Patti was an original board member of the Suzanne Jacobson Memorial Fund and a long-time volunteer for Junior Achievement.

Patti had her dream job as the owner of a small concession stand. She operated the PattiWagon at the Watertown Outdoor Pool for a number of years. She took her concessions on the road to sell her famous lemonade at events from the Lily Centennial to the annual Redlin Art Center concerts. Had her staff (children) been more willing, she would have continued her concessions business much longer.

Patti religiously clipped newspaper articles and publications mentioning friends or family and filed them away for later mailing. She was well-known for sending people a clipping from the past as a day brightener or as a way to recognize another milestone. Patti was generous with her time and good deeds to brighten another’s day.

Thankful for having her in their life are Dave, her husband of 55 years; her children Tom Linngren of Watertown, SD, Jennifer (Bob) Stalley of Pierre, SD, Heidi Linngren of Rapid City, SD, and David P. (Leticia) Linngren of Castle Rock, CO; ten grandchildren; her brothers Robert Welch of Watertown, SD, and Frank (Esther) Welch of DeForest, WI; sister-in-law Kaylyn Welch of Watertown, SD, and the countless friends she made during her life.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister Frances Engwer; brothers Donald Welch, Harold Welch, Clifford Welch, and Clayton Welch; and son-in-law Lance Fuegen.

Memorials are suggested to: First United Methodist Church, Jenkins Living Center Foundation, Habitat for Humanity or Junior Achievement.

Condolences to the family can be mailed to Jennifer Stalley, 4805 Lookout Drive, Pierre, SD 57501.
