Obituary for Patrick Riley

Patrick E. Riley, age 41, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family following a brief illness on Friday, November 27, 2020. Hospice care was there to help and support Pat.

Funeral services will be 10:00 am, with visitation one hour prior, December 2, 2020 at Wight & Comes Funeral Chapel in Watertown with Pastor Steve Biswell officiating.

Interment will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery.

Patrick Evan was born September 3, 1979 in Watertown, South Dakota to James and Lou Ann (Rider) Riley. Pat attended grade school, middle school and some high school in Watertown. He went one year to school in Rosholt, and then the family moved to Waverly where Pat graduated from high school in 1998.

As a young boy, Patrick loved to work on bicycles. His dad built him a shed to work in. Many neighbor kids would have him fix their bikes. He enjoyed building with legos, riding bike, fishing and playing with his dog. As he grew older he helped his dad work on cars, then his own car and then he would help his friends fix their cars. Sometimes he would prank his friends because he said “they should have known how to do that simple thing”.

After graduation Pat worked with his dad at Spies Corporation doing maintenance work. He really enjoyed fixing things. After his dad passed away, Pat and his mom moved to Sioux Falls. In 2005 he worked for Maschino Wood Floors. He learned how to refinish old floors and install and finish new wood floors. He worked in old historical buildings, old and new homes, but the one he really was impressed by was when he did work at the Cathedral. It was a highlight to do work at the Cathedral. In 2011 Pat worked for Showplace building kitchen cabinets in Harrisburg. When asked which job he likes best he said “easy, doing wood floors because you can see the job start to finish” and Pat took pride in his work. A big pet-peeve of his was coworkers talking and playing on their phones and Pat liked to stay busy.

Patrick loved spending time with his siblings and friends, and also, spending time with his dogs. He also enjoyed fishing, video games, building and fixing things. He had a huge loving compassionate and a very protective heart for his loved ones and his dogs.

Pat will be missed by his mother, Lou Ann Riley of Hazel, SD; his loving siblings, Lisa (Brian) Lipkins of Brookings, SD, Michaela (Myron) Namken of Watertown, SD; Todd (Kim) Riley of Watertown, SD, Paul Riley of Watertown, SD and Hope Riley of Brookings, SD; his nieces and nephews, Brandon (Dawn) Waters of Watertown, SD, Amanda (Jeremy) Nygaard of Watertown, Cynetta Riley of Brookings, SD, Katie Warne of Henderson,CO, Kyle (Nicole) Warne of Watertown, SD, Skye Hoffman of Watertown, SD; several aunts, uncles and cousins; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Pat is preceded in death by his father, James; his great nephew, JaQuan Michael Keith Riley; his maternal grandparents, Donald & Lois Rider and Gene Field; his paternal grandparents, Maurice Riley, Josephine & Earl Popham; six uncles; and his two aunts.
