Obituary for Ray Kerstetter

Ray Kerstetter, age 91, of Watertown, SD passed away Thursday, January 26, 2023.

Funeral services will be 11:00 am, Wednesday, February 1, 2023 with visitation one hour prior to the service at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in Watertown. Pastor Iver Possehl will officiate. Jonalyn Johnson will be the soloist accompanied by Sharon Falk.

Interment will be at the Goodwin Cemetery with military honors conducted by Frank H. Adams Post 750 of the VFW and Codington County Post 17 of the American Legion.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Ray's Veteran Brothers.

Pallbearers will be Travis Tesch, Andy Johnson, Dan Zimprich, Scott Evjen, Keith Olson and Corey Mushitz.

Ray Michael Kerstetter, son of Ray Franklin and Margaret Mae (Chase) Kerstetter was born on September 8, 1931 in Philadelphia, PA. He grew up in Darby, PA where he attended school. Following graduation, Ray enlisted in the United States Army and served during the Korean Conflict from 1953-1956.

On June 25, 1979 he married Marjorie Tesch in Morristown, NJ where they lived while Ray worked as a telecommunications engineer for AT&T. Ray and Marjorie moved to Washington, DC and Ray continued to work for AT&T worldwide. In 2001, the couple moved to Watertown and Ray was State Commander VFW for many years.

His interests were collecting model trains and stamps. At the age of 72 Ray completed Divinity School.

Ray is survived by his wife, Marjorie of Watertown, SD; his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Dorothy (Harlan) Barck of Marshall, MN, Mary Vanpoucke of Watertown, SD, Kenny Tesch of Estelline, SD, Dianne Adams of Omaha, NE, and Carl (Mary) Tesch of Watertown, SD; his children, Michael Kerstetter, Matthew Kerstetter, Mark Kerstetter, and Ray and Marjorie's children, Peter Duong, John Duong, James Duong; and several grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
