Obituary for Richard Davis Sr.

Richard C. Davis, Sr., 89, of Casper, WY, formerly of Watertown, SD, passed away on Friday, November 23, 2018 at a Casper, WY care facility. Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, November 29, 2018 at the Wight & Comes Funeral Chapel in Watertown with Pastor Ben Radtke officiating. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the services on Thursday. Burial will be at Mount Hope Cemetery, Watertown, SD. Military Honors will be conducted by Codington County Post 17 of the American Legion, Marine Corps League Kampeska NE Det. 1079 of Watertown, and Marine Corps Funeral Honors Team of Wahpeton, ND. Pallbearers will be Eric Davis, Dustin Schmeling, Roger Meyer, John McKee, Cal Venjohn and Jeff Stadheim. Richard Cliffton Davis was born to Homer and Nina (Rick) Davis on October 9, 1929 in Watertown, SD. He attended school in Garden City and Clark, SD. Richard joined the United States Marine Corps and served from 1946-1948. Following his discharge, Richard went to trade school in Omaha, NE for Refrigeration. He met Norma Jean Skells at the Spider Web roller skating rink at Stoney Point. They were married on September 15, 1951 in Salem, Oregon. The couple lived in Salem where he worked as a logger and policeman. Their son, Richard Jr. was born in 1953 in Salem. Richard and Norma moved to Watertown in 1956 and he was employed at the Watertown Police Department for four years. In 1961 they welcomed their daughter Rhonda to their family. Richard worked at Terrace Park Dairy and then worked at Team Electronics. From there he worked for the City of Watertown in the Forestry Service until his retirement. His beloved wife, Norma passed away in 2003. Richard was always interested in cars. He enjoyed working in his yard and his flower gardens. He loved to be outdoors, golfing and fishing. In his younger years, Richard enjoyed pheasant and goose hunting. Richard is survived by his son, Richard (Cindy Olson) Davis of Florence; his daughter, Rhonda Davis of Casper, WY; two grandchildren, Eric (Erika Hoffman) Davis, and Becky (Dustin) Schmeling; three great-grandchildren, Ashia, Jackson and Bennett Davis; his sister, Elaine McKinnis of Eugene, OR; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Norma, one brother Wilton Davis, and a sister Vera Evenson.
