Obituary for Rita Theresa Weber

Rita Weber, age 92, of Watertown, SD, passed away on Wednesday, April 19, 2023 at Jenkins Living Center. She is the widow of Merle P. Weber.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m., with a rosary led by Bob Spartz at 7 p.m., Friday, April 28, 2023 at Wight & Comes Funeral Chapel.

Funeral Mass will be at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, April 29, 2023 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Watertown with Father Richard Fox as celebrant.

Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery in Watertown.

Pallbearers will be Troy Murphy, Jeff Englund, Erick Nelson, Brian Weber, Whitney Weber and Landen Weber.

Honorary Pallbearers will be all Rita's other grandchildren, her great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

Rita Theresa Weber, daughter of Frank and Kathryn (Appelhof) Korbel was born on June 22, 1930 in rural Goodwin, SD. She grew up in the Goodwin area and attended school in Goodwin, graduating from Goodwin High School in 1948. After graduating Rita worked as a bookkeeper for Pete Appelhof.

Rita married Merle P. Weber on her 19th birthday on June 22, 1949 in Kranzburg, SD. They lived in the Strandburg, SD area where they farmed until 1955 when they moved to Astoria, SD where they ran a Gambles/grocery store. Rita and Merle moved to Revillo, SD where they ran a Gambles/grocery store. She then worked in a canning factory in Ortonville, MN and then worked as a janitor for Grant-Deuel School. Rita and Merle moved to Watertown in 1992.

Rita loved being a mom and grandmother and taking care of her children and grandchildren. She attended every sports event of her children. Coffee was always on and cookies in the jar. Rita loved taking care of people and was a "mother" to everyone. She was an avid gardener, loved to can and was a member of the ladies aid at the Annunciation Church in Revillo. She also loved camping with Denny and Trudy Weber and playing pinochle.

Rita is survived by her daughters, Connie Murphy of Hampton, VA, Judy (Keith) Seidlinger of Devils Lake, ND, Lou Ann Nelson of Grand Island, NE, and Joan (Tim) Person of Sioux Falls, SD; two sons, Larry (Tami) Weber of Prineville, OR, and Steve (Jodi) Weber of Sioux Falls, SD; one sister, Mary Moes of Goodwin, SD; 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Merle, her sister Rosella Haider, and her sons-in-law Lyle Nelson and Michael Murphy.
