Obituary for Rollo Calvin Korth

Rollo C. Korth, 91, of Watertown, SD, passed away on Sunday, October 27, 2019 at Jenkins Living Center.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, October 31, 2019 at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Mazeppa Township, rural Summit, SD. Pastor Albert Meier will officiate with music by Monica Beatrice.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m., Wednesday, October 30, 2019 at the Wight & Comes Funeral Chapel in Watertown.

Burial will be at St. John's Lutheran Church Cemetery (by the church). Military honors will be conducted by South Dakota Army National Guard Funeral Honors Team of Watertown.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Rollo's great-grandchildren and the Staff at Jenkins Living Center and Staff at Edgewood Memory Care.

Active Pallbearers will be Rollo's grandchildren: Scott and Eric Waldron, Christopher Caulk, Sarah Schumann, John, Aaron and Nathan Caulk, Crystal Scheuring, Heather Wilson, Larissa Henry, Branden Korth, Amanda Campanaro, and Lucas, Leah, Erin and Jordan Mack.

Memorials may be designated to St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Mazeppa Township, Summit, SD, or Great Plains Lutheran High School in Watertown.

Rollo Calvin Korth was born to Oscar R. and Bertha A. (Beskow) Korth on November 13, 1927 in Watertown, South Dakota. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Martin's Lutheran Church in Watertown. He grew up on a farm north of Watertown and attended country school Mayflower District #23 near his home. He either walked or biked, the near two miles. Rollo went on to Aggie School through SDSU in Brookings, SD.

On October 8, 1950 he married Elizabeth E. Redemske in Watertown. Rollo entered the United States Army on June 8, 1951. After his honorable discharge on January 24, 1953, Rollo and Elizabeth lived and farmed on various farms in Germantown Township, moving to Watertown in 1967 and then to Burnsville, MN where he did carpentry work for two years. They returned to live on the family homestead in Germantown Township in 1970 in a house Rollo built himself. Rollo and Elizabeth moved to Phoenix, AZ in 1997. His beloved wife Elizabeth passed away on July 22, 2000. Rollo continued to spend his winters in Phoenix and summers on a rural home north of Watertown until ill health kept him in Watertown year around.

Rollo was devoted to his church, being on various church councils, singing in the choir and teaching Sunday school. Rollo loved to play his clarinet and was in several bands in his younger years.

Rollo is survived by his children, Barbara (Paul) Waldron of Watertown, SD, Monica (Joe) Beatrice and Debra (Vern) Caulk of Mesa, AZ, David (Dixie) Korth of South Shore, SD, Robert (Julie) Korth of Watertown, SD, Bethel (Gary) Pieschke of Lake Norden, SD and Marilyn Korth of Clear Lake, SD; his siblings, Orrin Korth of Watertown, SD, Ramona (Richard) Krista of Denver, CO and O. Harlan (Nancy Sue) Korth of LaGrange, GA; 16 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; his sister, Eleanor Andrisen; a brother-in-law, Hartney Andrisen; and a sister-in-law, Lorraine Korth.
