Rosalie (Laven) Horner was born on February 20, 1925 to Joseph and Muriel Laven in Mankato, MN. She graduated from Mankato High School in Mankato, MN. She soon moved to Watertown and met Roland “Whiz” Horner. They married on June 26, 1948 in Watertown, SD. She was a devoted stay-at-home mom. They were blessed with 9 children so she was very busy.

She enjoyed square dancing with her husband. They danced in all 50 states before his passing in 1990. She also enjoyed her bridge clubs, birthday clubs, and coffee with friends. She learned how to golf in her 50’s and continued on into her 90’s. She loved spending time with her family and friends. She was an avid reader and a die-hard Twins fan. She spent many hours volunteering in the community.

Rosalie was a founding member of Holy Name Catholic Church where she devoted many hours making prayer shawls and baptismal bibs, going to daily mass, and helping out where ever help was needed. She was a Benedictine Oblate and lifelong member of Catholic Daughters of America and Watertown Area Right To Life. She was also a Gold Star Mother.

Being grateful for sharing in her life are her daughters, Julie (Michael) Horner Vahldieck, Mazomanie, WI; Lynn (Bob) Ferrie and Therese Horner, all of Sioux Falls, SD; Jean (Dave) Case, Watertown, SD and Mary (Dan) Ward, Bryant, SD; and her son, Scott (Nancy) Horner, Corona, CA. Her sister, Karen (Gary) Lang, Onalaska, WI; her grandchildren; Corey Ferrie, Rob Hall, Sara Oleson, Melissa Kruse, Emily Welch, Megan Leong, Michelle Horner, Jonathan Ward, Jeremy Canales, Alex Phillips, and Nicki Horner; 16 great-grandchildren, 2 nieces, and 1 nephew.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Whiz, one sister and three sons; Robin, Mark, and Craig Horner.

In Lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be given to Watertown Area Right to Life, Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church or Watertown Regional Library.
