Obituary for RuEmma "Rudie" Grovenburg
"Rudie" RuEmma L. Grovenburg, age 87, of Watertown, SD, passed away on Sunday, July 3, 2022 at Avantara Lake Norden, SD.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 am Saturday, July 9, 2022, with visitation one hour prior, at Wight & Comes Funeral Chapel in Watertown. Reverend Elmer Brinkman will officiate.
Internment will be at Mount Hope Cemetery in Watertown.
RuEmma Lucy Grovenburg was born May 21, 1935 to Ward D. and Pansy M. (Devor) Grovenburg in Seneca, Kansas. At the age of six the family moved to South Dakota where she grew up and attended school.
Rudie resided in Watertown where she was employed at Wynn’s Potato Chips and Reliable Grocery. She did daycare for 30 plus years and touched the lives of many children, young and old. At age 20, Vicky came into Rudie’s life and Rudie became the “mother” Vicky never had and loved Vicky like a daughter. Rudie helped raise her niece, Mary, for the first 5 years of her life and they too had a mother/daughter relationship and she considered Mary her daughter. The two always remained close. Rudie also considered Mary’s children as her own grandchildren. They all loved and took care of Rudie in her later years. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
She loved her companion dogs and had many pets during her lifetime.
Rudie was a member of the Eagles Lodge.
Rudie is survived by her daughter, Vicky Wollschlager of Castlewood, SD; her niece, Mary and Robert Grewing of South Shore, SD; her two grandchildren (Mary’s children) Melissa Grewing (Brian Pedersen) of Fargo, ND and Kris Grewing (Lori Gage) of Gary, SD; and two great-granddaughters, (Kris’s children) Izabella and Annabella.
Rudie was preceded in death by her parents; her two brothers; and three sisters.
