Obituary for Shirley Jean Stormo

A public Celebration of Shirley's Life will be from 2:00 - 4:00 pm, Saturday, May 22, 2021 at Hosanna Lutheran Church in Watertown, SD. All are welcome.


Shirley J. Stormo passed away on November 12, 2020, at the age of 90, after a long battle with Alzheimers Disease.

Burial was held at Mount Hope Cemetery, Watertown, SD.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Shirley's grandchildren: Jennifer Koza, Niki Stormo, Heather Hanson, Krystal Sperry, Austin Buckley, Colin Buckley, Casey Stormo, Brock Stormo, Abigail Stormo, Ethan Stadheim and Callie Stadheim.

Shirley Jean (Jellis) Stormo was born on February 27, 1930, to James and Ruth (Mahanke) Jellis, at home near Waverly, South Dakota. She attended school and graduated from Waverly High School.

She married her soul mate, Orvil, on September 20, 1948 at her parents home in Waverly, SD.
In 1949 they moved to the farm in Lura Townhip, Grant County. Together they raised their children and shared a love for the family farm they established. In 1992, they retired and moved into Watertown, SD.

She loved gardening, especially her flowers, which provided lots of color and variety to the landscape around her home.

She was a member of the Sons of Norway and the Busy Fingers extension club. She was also very involved with the church community by serving on altar guild, quilting, and making lefse during the Christmas holiday season.

She loved spending time with family and friends, dancing, family camping trips and especially time with the grandchildren.

She will be remembered as a caring and loving person and will be greatly missed by her loving family and all who knew her.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Orvil, her parents, 2 brothers, 4 sisters, 7 brothers-in-law, 3 sisters-in-law, and 2 granddaughters.

She is survived by her children: Sandra (Tom) Norby of Albert Lea, MN, Roger (Sherry) Stormo of Council Bluffs, IA, Pamela (Brent) Buckley of Kapolei HI, Gordon (Beth) Stormo of Summit, SD, and Laurie (Scott) Stadheim of Sioux Falls, SD: one sister and one sister-in-law: 10 grandchildren: 6 great-grandchildren: 4 great-great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.


Private family services for Shirley J. Stormo were held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, November 16, 2020 at Hosanna Lutheran Church in Watertown with Pastor Janine Rew-Werling officiating. Shirley's services will be live-streamed through Hosanna Lutheran Church website at www.hosannalutheranwtn.com.
