Obituary for Stephen J. "Steve" Foster

Stephen "Steve" J. Foster, 66, of Watertown, SD, passed away on Wednesday, January 20, 2021 at his residence.

PLEASE NOTE DATE OF SERVICES: Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, January 30, 2021 at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Watertown with Reverend David Jennys and Father Michael Wensing officiating. Judy Everson will be the soloist accompanied by Bruce Reinhardt.

Steve's services will be recorded and posted on the funeral home website when available.
Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m., with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m., Friday, January 29, 2021 at the Wight & Comes Funeral Chapel in Watertown.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to Placerville Camp, 13801 W. Hwy 44, Rapid City, SD 57702.

Pallbearers will be Wayne Beisch, James Weyh, Phillip Longworth, William Longworth, Todd Coombes and Marcus Coombes.

Stephen Joseph Foster, son of Earl J., Jr. and Averlene (Kaiser) Foster was born on August 28, 1954 in Watertown, SD. He attended school in Watertown and graduated from Watertown High School in 1972. Steve then attended SDSU in Brookings where he obtained his Bachelors of Animal Science degree with a minor in Chemistry.

He was united in marriage to Brenda Coombes on May 27, 1983 in Watertown, SD. Steve worked at Mac's Hardware and then as a meter reader for the Watertown Municipal Utilities.

Steve was a board member for Ducks Unlimited and Habitat for Humanity, a member of St. Francis Mens Choir, Men of Faith, and was a cub scout leader. He volunteered with Meals On Wheels, and was a Placerville camp promoter/counselor and church youth group advisor.

Steve enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards, swimming, making maple syrup and eating ice cream, and making giant bubbles for kids.

Steve is survived by his wife, Brenda; his children, Andrew (Jenny) Foster and Allison Foster of Watertown; his siblings, Margaret (Kent) Demory of Branson, MO, Michael (Annette) Foster of Glendale, AZ, Patrick Foster of St. Petersburg, FL, and Cecilia (Taylor) Longworth of Cocoa Beach, FL; two grandchildren, Oliver and Elsie; and his nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Averlene Foster.
