Obituary for Valerie L. Amdahl

Valerie Amdahl, age 71, of Summit, SD, passed away Sunday, January 17, 2021 at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls.

Private Family Services will be held Thursday, January 21, 2021 at Hope Lutheran Church in Summit with Pastor Janet Miller officiating.

Visitation will be open to the public from 4-7 p.m., Wednesday, January 20, 2021 at Wight & Comes Funeral Chapel in Watertown.

Facemasks are required. Thank you.

Interment will be at Hope Lutheran Cemetery, Summit.

Pallbearers are Jeff Amdahl, Dylan Amdahl, Andy Amdahl, Matt Amdahl, Brady Lindholm, Damon Opdahl and Brianna Lindholm.

Honorary Pallbearers are Brynlee Amdahl, Tate Amdahl, Braxton Urban and Theo Amdahl.

Valerie “Val” Lynne Amdahl was born January 18, 1949 in Webster, South Dakota to Henning and Aili (Korpela) Swanson. She was baptized and confirmed at the Ortley Lutheran Church in Ortley, SD. She grew up on a farm in Spring Grove Township, Roberts County and attended school in Summit where she graduated in 1967. She also attended Northern State College for one year.

Val married James “Jimmy” Amdahl on November 27, 1971 at Hope Lutheran Church. They lived in Summit for a short time before moving to the family farm where they have resided the last 42 years.

Val was employed at Midland National Life Insurance in Watertown for a short time. She then worked at P.G.I. in Watertown and in later years at the Coffee Cup Fuel Stop in Summit.

She enjoyed attending her children’s and grandchildren’s numerous activities. She was an avid basketball fan, following the Summit Eagles and later on the Mustangs. She also enjoyed cooking, gardening and restoring old furniture. She always looked forward to visiting with her friends and relatives.

Val is survived by her husband, Jimmy of Summit; her children, Corey (Stacey) Amdahl, Michelle (Brent) Urban and Mark (Lisa) Amdahl all of Summit; her brothers, James (Shirley) Swanson of Ortley and Owen (Luanne) Swanson of Aberdeen; ten grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. She also has numerous nieces and nephews that she cherished dearly.

Val was preceded in death by her parents.
