Vincent James Wencil was born to Albert and Elsie “Hazel” (Christian) Wencil on August 22, 1930 in Lawton, ND. He grew up in Lawton where he attended school and graduated from Lawton High School in 1948. Vincent married Marilyn M. Kuball on June 3, 1951 in Lawton, ND. Vincent was drafted into the United States Army on October 11, 1951 and served until his honorable discharge on October 10, 1953.

Vince and Marilyn lived in Grand Forks, ND, where Vince attended the University of North Dakota and earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration in 1958. In 1962 they moved to Watertown and Vince was employed as an insurance auditor for many years. His beloved wife, Marilyn, passed away on March 26, 2008.

The three most important things in Vince’s life were his faith, his family, and his music. He started playing in the Al Wencil Dance Band in 1941 and continued to entertain dancers and listeners with his trumpet through 2018. He was an avid sports fan and loved watching the Minnesota Twins and New York Yankees. Vince is survived by his children, Corby (Stuart) Shelsta of Hayti, Cary (Cathy) Wencil of Sioux Falls, and Beth (Bart) Nelson and Mick (Sarah) Wencil of St. Paul, MN; six grandchildren, Erin, Emily, Stephanie, Mallory, Brooke and Brett; four great grandchildren, Hensley, Blakeley, Evan, and Lucas; and his nephew, Randy Anderson of North Dakota.

He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant son, James Rockne Wencil, who was stillborn, his wife Marilyn, one brother Ervin Wencil, and one sister Doris Anderson.
