Michael J. Wight

Funeral Director & Owner

Michael J. Wight, the son of Ernie and Natalie Wight, became a fourth generation funeral director and is a lifelong resident of Watertown, SD. He started his funeral apprenticeship at the Wight, Comes & Sogn Funeral Chapel in 2006 between attending the University of South Dakota and Mortuary School in Kansas City. After graduating and becoming a licensed funeral director, Michael was employed at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home in Aberdeen, SD. In the fall of 2009, following the retirement of his father Ernie Wight, Jr., Michael was happy to follow in his fathers footsteps at Wight & Comes Funeral Chapel. He married Megan Lauer of Watertown in September 2010 and have 3 children Maverick, Zander and Clara. Michael bought in to the Funeral Home in January of 2015. Michael is a member of the First United Methodist Church, Watertown Lite Young Professionals, Lions Club, Ducks Unlimited and the National Wild Turkey Federation. Michael is happy to be back in his home town and serving his community.

Morrie D. Comes

Funeral Director & Owner

Morrie D. Comes began his funeral service career in 1993, serving part of his apprenticeship with the Wight & Fox Funeral Chapel, Watertown, SD. After working two years in Benson, MN and four years in Clear Lake, SD Morrie joined the Wight & Fox Funeral Chapel in April of 2000. He became a partner with Ernie Wight, Jr. in January of 2002. It was then that the chapel was renamed the Wight & Comes Funeral Chapel. Morrie, a former Waverly area resident, is married to Brenda Maag. The couple has four children, Bailey, Hannah, Owen and Evan. The family are members of the Holy Name Catholic Church in Watertown. Morrie is a member of the Watertown Optimist Club.

 Betty Reppe

Executive Assistant 

Betty Reppe, daughter of Harry & LaVon (Meester) Borg of Willow Lake, is a graduate of Willow Lake High School and Watertown Business University. She is the mother of Nicole (Greg) Kellar and Steven Reppe and the proud and fun grandmother of six.  Her good sense of humor and the love of helping people keeps her going strong and she does it with a smile. 
She was employed at Prairie Lakes Hospital for many years then later at Rock of Ages Monument Company as a memorial consultant/counselor. Betty started employment at Wight & Comes Funeral Chapel in October of 2005 and is very efficient in organizing and running the office. This includes: writing or helping the family with the obituary, preparing the beautiful memorial folders, scanning/cropping photos, calling the appropriate people involved with the funeral such as the pastor, organist, soloist, pallbearers, cemetery personnel and other preparations to make it as easy and comforting for the family. Other necessary calls are to insurance companies for families, ordering  vaults, flowers and other clerical and physical duties deemed as to what the needs are.  

 Kayla Giebler

Office Administrator 

Kayla is a long time resident of Watertown and graduated from Watertown High School in 2002. She graduated in 2005 with an Associate’s Degree in Business Administration from Mount Marty College in Watertown. Kayla has two children; daughter, Amelia and son, Zain that keep her young and on her toes. In her spare time she enjoys spending time with her family and friends, but also enjoys her alone time. She enjoys music, tacos, living on the outskirts of town, sunrises, sunsets and taking pictures of nature. Kayla previously worked at Sioux Valley Co-op Federal Credit Union and Wells Fargo, along with various restaurants, serving, so customer service is one of her strong suits. Kayla joined Wight and Comes Funeral Chapel in September 2023 as an office administrator. She enjoys being able to help people and strives to give a warm welcome. She is caring, empathetic and willing to help in any way she can. Wight and Comes Funeral Chapel is very happy to have her as part of the team.      

 Jean Fox 

Visitation Hostess 

Jean was born and raised in Watertown, the youngest child of Lewis and Helen Nichols. She married her high school sweetheart Don Fox, a CPA and they have two children, Emily and Adam, plus four beautiful grandchildren that she loves to spoil! 
She enjoys volunteering in her community and church. Since 2002 she has worked at Wight & Comes as a visitation hostess, assisting families and welcoming guests to the funeral chapel. When the office gets busy Jean is happy to join in and help out wherever she can.  She enjoys working with people and getting to know them and feels very privileged to be able to help families in their time of loss.  Jean is a cheerful, loving person and Wight & Comes Funeral Chapel is proud to have her assisting families.  She is greatly appreciated.
