Obituary

Arthur Anthony “Tony” Urevig, 1935-2020, age 84, of Watertown, SD, passed away on Tuesday, August 25, 2020 after courageously battling melanoma at home with his loving family by his side.

There will be a public Memorial Visitation held at Holy Name Catholic Church in Watertown, SD from 1:00-2:00 PM on Monday, August 31, 2020.

A private family funeral service will follow the public visitation.

Tony was born on November 1, 1935, in Burke, SD to Arthur and Isabelle (Turgeon) Urevig. He graduated from Frazee High School with the class of 1953 and completed one year at St. John’s University when he realized that college was not for him. He drove to the Catholic Church in Wheaton, SD where his father was working on the church as a bricklayer and told his father to put him to work.

On July 17, 1959 Tony married Verda Olson, the love of his life. Tony co-owned and operated a masonry business, Dale-Urevig Masonry, with his partner Lawrence ‘Larry’ Dale for more than 40 years. Tony’s proudest accomplishments as a bricklayer were the Terry Redlin Art Center, additions to the Prairie Lakes Hospital, and having his sons and grandsons working beside him. He was an active member of the Bricklayer’s and Allied Craftworkers (BAC) Union for most of his adult life.

Tony loved picking blueberries ‘up north’ in Minnesota, fishing, hunting, spending time with his children and grandchildren and his beloved wife, Verda. Tony’s favorite pastime was his garden. His family helped him to plant his last garden this summer. We will lovingly harvest his garden this fall and we know he will be smiling down on us as we pick the last tomato.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Verda, his sisters, Margie and Josephine, his children, Kelly (Mike) Frankenfield of Faribault, MN, Kerry (Steve) Urevig of Walker, MN, Sarah (Patrick) Wanner, John (Julie) Urevig, and Paul (Regena) Urevig all of Watertown, SD, and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Lauren, Jenna, ‘Tony’, Caleb, Jeff, Charlie, Barret, Jesse, Melody, Adonis and Calypso Jade.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Art and Belle and his sisters, Frances and Carmen.
