Joy graduated from Watertown Beauty Academy in 1952 and worked at Bea’s Beauty Shop for some time. Joy married Wilfred “Chuck” Kjetland on December 6, 1952 at the Grace Lutheran Church in Watertown. Joy was an amazing cook, but also loved to eat out with her family and always looked forward to dessert. She enjoyed working crossword puzzles, playing pinochle with her family, and hosting pinochle parties where she was happy to be a member of two card clubs.

Dear Kjetland family, so sorry to hear of your wonderful mother's passing. She was my den mother for cub scouts and tolerated so many unruly and distracted Grant school elementary school boys back in the 60's and 70's. I really appreciated her and Mrs. Juanita Johnson (another wonderful mom) who played such wonderful encouraging women in my life. So sorry Bret and all. My prayers and fond memories to all of you. Thoughts and Prayers for Family of Joy

Just a note (the day before Joy's funeral) to let you know I'm thinking of and praying for your family. I remember Joy for her joy, sweets, and cards. Our loss is heaven's gain; there is truly less joy here and more there. I think there is the tendency to try to focus on only the positive after a loss, but by my memory Joy's biggest fault was loving too much. I can only pray and strive to follow her example.
Blessings, Angie (Vogt) Thoreson

I admired an amazing woman who had 10 kids, 3 dogs and every neighborhood kid at her home. Joy Kjetland made everyone feel welcomed and loved. She made room in her home for everyone, everyday. She invited me to attend church with her family and soon my family joined Grace Lutheran. She was such an important person to me and my family that she sponsored my sister and my baptism. I will always think of her with a big smile, and bigger heart. She truly embodied her name "Joy". My thoughts and prayers to the entire family.
